Three Generations of Railroad Photography Charles Lange: East Coast Railfan Goes West Coastal - (from Eugene, OR)
Three Generations of Railroad Photography
Charles Lange: East Coast Railfan Goes West Coastal
The second in a trilogy of presentations showcasing the evolution of railroad photography spanning 68 years and three generations. This second series starts with a back story along with images showing the heavy influence of trains and photography Charles had during his childhood. Through the camera lens of his father, we'll follow Charles as a young boy posed on several New Haven steam engines during their last years of service during the mid forties. We then skip ahead to his transplant to Southern California to attend college and his first exposure to what will instantly be his favorite railroad, Southern Pacific. Charles will take us on a journey through his early years as an aspiring photographer to some of his favorite haunts such as the Tehachapis, Cajon Pass, and the SP Coastline. We'll also follow Charles on his move to Oregon where he'll share with us some of his favorite photos of the SP Oregon Division lines along with his reconnection to steam engines. With an emphasis on SP, ATSF, and UP, this presentation is barely a sampling of the best images chosen from the 80,000 plus slides that Charles has taken over the past 47 years.
